Chronology 2016 - 2020

2016

January. TV3 releases the series “Em dic Manel” (My name is Manel), a pioneering proposal, made up of four independent pieces, released on different digital platforms, and linked through social media networks. It is the first transmedia series that free TV has premiered on different platforms linked to the broadcast by TV and radio.

February. The CCMA has defined a new procedure for contracting projects with audiovisual content. A collaboration model with the audiovisual industry that enhances transparency both in the selection process and in the control of costs.

Within the CCMA's media confluence process, the first corporate management of content has been implemented, corresponding to the field of Sports on TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio.

11th February. Super3 is 25 years old and, with almost 1,500,000 super members each with a membership card, it has been consolidated as the benchmark for Catalan children's universe. A club that is unique in the world. Later, the Super3 YouTube channel was created, followed by the new app which allows you to order a membership card and manage it.

March. TV3 launches updates on accessibility in smart TVs. The TV3 a la carte service incorporates the ability to customize video captions and audiodescription. These are some advances that have been made in the context of the HBB4ALL research project, which aims to take advantage of the possibilities of new technologies to respond to the demands for accessibility from groups with special needs.

March. The news headlines of Catalunya Ràdio can be followed by Radio Tele Taxi. The agreement between the two stations will allow the provision of news connections throughout the day from private radio, extending the scope of the public service of the CCMA to the RTT audience.

15th June. TV3 publishes an interactive map where, for the first time, 126 black points, which give information about delays on local, regional and long distance trains in Catalonia, can be consulted.

5th November. A symphony concert celebrating 25 years of Super3 is to be held at L'Auditori. A review is made ,in the style of classic and pop fusion, of Super3's most emblematic songs, performed by ten artists who have been club members: Els amics de les Arts, Catarres, Enric Verdaguer, Joan Colomo, Judit Neddermann, Joan Dausà, Elena Gadel, Gemma Humet, Arnau Tordera and the SP3, together with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra - The National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) and the pop rock quartet of Marc Parrot.

TV3's La Marató celebrates 25 years. 25 years of success in which it has raised about 173 million Euros and has promoted 794 research projects on a wide range of diseases. This is an event driven by solidarity that has reached the status of social heritage.

December. TV3 closes the year with an historic milestone, being the first television channel to be the leader in audience figures in Catalonia for seven years running. And with regard to quality, TV3 is the most valued Catalan generalist television channel and its news programs are leaders in credibility, trust and impartiality. Catalunya Ràdio has obtained the annual historical record of audience figures since it was created and, according to the EGM, has been consolidated as the radio station that has grown the most.

2017

January. The AMB and the CCMA initiate the basic electric vehicles charge points for the workers of the Corporation in Sant Joan Despí. It is a pilot test that serves as model to embed more sustainable mobility in large working centres and industrial estates.

The web portal of CCMA (TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio), the HbbTV service of TV3 and the TV3 app incorporate subtitles on demand in all the videos they have.

10th May 2017. Catalunya Música celebrate their 30th anniversary with the live broadcast of the last concert of the OBC season adding to the celebration of the leading radio station in its sphere in Catalonia.

The Democratic Memorial and the CCMA sign an agreement that will allow the largest historical archive of oral testimonies in Europe to be created, consolidating us as the European reference as regards preservation and diffusion of democratic memorial. We thus contribute to building the audio-visual patrimony and fulfil our function of public service.

The CCMA presents the results of the Hbb4All European project, with the consortium formed by twelve European partners before the representatives of the European Commission who highlight the excellent results and the impact achieved in the sphere of audio-visual accessibility at European scale, where the project has become a reference point.

2nd August. iCat returns to FM in test period, after disappearing for almost five years from the air and broadcasting exclusively by internet. On 6th regular broadcasting begins. Together fulfilling the objective formulated by the management of the broadcaster and the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The CCMA wins a bid in the UE for the promotion of TDT in the public television of Colombia as part of a consortium with BAa consultants and Persidera SpA (Italy), in collaboration with the Catalan Agency for cooperation in Development. The Corporation contributes experience as a pioneer in the development of digital channels in Televisió de Catalunya.

25th October. Before more than 50 international media TV3, Catalunya Ràdio and ACN present publicly in a live press conference, a manifesto to defend the Catalan public media after the threat of intervention by the Spanish government, which would suppose the infringement of the fundamental right of freedom of information.

December. The CCMA participates in the Immersive Accessibility (ImAc) project, financed by the research and innovation programme of the Union European Horizon 2020. Begun in October of this year, it explores new methods for the installation of services of accessibility (subtitles, audio-description, audio-subtitles, sign language and accessible interfaces) in 360º video immersive environments.

December. National Research Award for Scientific Patronage for the Foundation La Marató de 3Cat. The award, of great international prestige granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI) recognizes the key role of the Foundation La Marató of TV3 during the course of 25 years in the promotion of biomedical research in Catalonia, translated into improvements in quality and life expectancy of people affected by serious and chronic illnesses.

The CCMA participates in an EU project to promote DTT in Columbia.

The programme “Una mà de contes”, on the channel SX3, produces the winning stories from the School Floral Games of Catalonia in the new category of illustrated audiovisual story creation.

The CCMA and Memorial Democràtic create the largest historical memory document repository in Europe. The CCMA releases over a thousand hours of interviews with oral testimonies from people who lived through the Civil War and Franco dictatorship to create this publicly accessible historical archive.

2018

February Catalunya Ràdio wins the V Martí Gasull i Roig Award from Plataforma de la Llengua for its professionalism, public service engagement and essential role in normalising the Catalan language.

MarchTV3 reaches a historic landmark in qualitative assessment: a mark of 8.5 from the consumer board of the multinational market study company GfK. Never before had a general broadcaster received this mark.

24 May Club Super3, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Generalitat, organises its first “Supernight at the Library” event, with the participation of 15,000 club members.

October TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio become the first media outlets to incorporate Catalan-language content into virtual voice assistant services, making the “Telenotícies vespre” summary and weather forecasts available through Amazon's Alexa.

16 October La Marató Foundation of TV3 receives the National Research Award in scientific patronage for its decisive contribution toward improving the health of society.

18 November TV3 premiers “Poliamor”, the first series designed exclusively for a digital platform, broadcast live on Instagram with audience participation.

27 November Bon dia TV is born, a new digital channel created by the CCMA and IB3

December The CCMA incorporates audio description for the visually impaired into its on-demand Internet service.

December The non-stop news channel 3/24 receives the National Communication Award.

December The 27th edition of La Marató of TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio, dedicated to cancer, breaks the charity project's fundraising record: 15,068,252 euros.

December TV3 ends 2018 with an audience share of 14%, the best out of the past six years, and reaches a new record: it is the first television channel to lead for nine years in a row in Catalonia.

2019

2019 is a year of “digital first” headline coverage: the first message-based news service is released, through WhatsApp and Telegram, and automated news reports are generated from users' geolocation data.

20 February The CCMA and the Professional Association of the Catalan Audiovisual Sector (CPAC) release the new “Professional agreement of CCMA media outlets”, which is broadened to professional groups beyond the areas of news and sports.

25 June The first CCMA Professional Council of Cultural and Entertainment Programmes and Content is constituted.

11 September The CCMA and the Department of Digital Policy and Public Administration promote 5G-technology broadcasting from inside the demonstration for the Diada (National Day of Catalonia). It is the first time in all of Spain that a television channel broadcasts a live event through the commercial 5G network from a public, open and multitudinous setting.

28 October Thousands of people participate in Barcelona in the filming of the advert for La Marató, forming a giant human castle for rare diseases.

October Catalunya Música organises the UER international choir competition, Let the Peoples Sing, with the collaboration of the Palau de la Música Catalana. It is the first time this event is held in Spain.

13 November “Merlí”, the original TV3 series, is recognised by the National Communication Award. The adventures of this philosophy teacher have moved audiences in countries like Germany, Mexico, Italy and France, as well as in Latin America, where the series has become a popular phenomenon.

18 November The segment “El temps”, on TV3, wins the International Weather Summit Award for Best Studio Weather.

15 December The programme of La Marató on TV3 changes its format and is broadcast from different parts of the territory in an unprecedented technical display. Olot, Tàrrega, Reus and Barcelona are the headquarters of this edition, dedicated to rare diseases.

31 December TV3 ends 2019 having reached a record milestone: ten years in a row as the lead channel in Catalonia and with its best audience share since 2010. A monthly record is also reached this year, with 29 consecutive months of leadership.

2020

February The CCMA participates in two pilot tests of the European Union programme for research and innovation Horizon 2020 : ImAc, an immersive audiovisual experience, with synchronised captions, and EasyTV, for captioning programmes in different languages.

13 February Catalunya Ràdio broadcasts the first transmission of immersive 3D advertising, a pioneer initiative in Europe, which aims for innovation in the advertising realm as well.

13 May La Marató Foundation receives the Prat de la Riba Prize at the 2020 Sant Jordi Awards of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans for the fomentation of biomedical research and promotion of charitable human values in Catalonia.

2011

5 February. Launch of Esport3, the channel aimed at the public with an interest in sport and at those who live sport with passion.

14 March. Official launch of TV3HD, the channel that broadcasts TV3's programmes simultaneously in High Definition.

17 April. "El Cafè de la República", from Catalunya Ràdio, celebrates 1,000 programmes with a special broadcast from a bomb shelter.

23 April. iCat fm celebrates its fifth anniversary with a special programme from plaça de Catalunya in Barcelona. Founded as a new radio model designed for FM and the Internet, it has become one of the main means of cultural dissemination in the country.

TV3, present with more than 4,000 videos on the Dailymotion platform, the second biggest Internet video website after YouTube.

The TV3 portal and TV3alacarta includes advisories for the recommended age for all content in videos on demand.

10 June. TV3 participates in the first live worldwide broadcast of a concert in 3D and 5.1 sound. It is the concert of "Violadores del Verso", from Zaragoza.

13 July. The CCMA "Style Book" is approved, which establishes language and editorial framework and journalistic, ethical and professional standards. The document contains the values of public service and commitment to society with the 28 years of experience of the professionals in CCMA businesses.

TV3 begins test broadcasting its services in HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV), the European hybrid television standard that allows combining DTT broadcasting with on demand services by means of the Internet.

Channels TV3 and TV3alacarta can be watched through the intelligent television system TiVo®, which also includes the content in HD and 3D.

October. The sixteenth edition of the Festa dels Súpers obtains a record attendance, with 420,000 people in the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, an event that year after year displays the power of social cohesion of one of the most important clubs in Catalonia.

28 October. The Catalunya Informació Twitter also begins to tweet in Aranese.

Super3 releases an application for iPhone, Android and iPad mobile devices to watch the channel's programmes and series.

18 December. La Marató de 3Cat celebrates its twentieth anniversary with record revenues and social participation: € 8,931,418 and 1,825 popular activities organised by the citizens. In 20 years, it has raised € 106,616,462 and has promoted 565 biomedical research projects.

2012

15 February. Parliament approves a law for modifying several laws with regards to audiovisual, which introduces changes in the law of the Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals and redistributes the functions of its governing bodies.

TV3 launches a new mobile application that allows users of iPhone, iPod Touch and Android devices to access over 75,000 videos from TV3alacarta and live broadcasts from channels TV3cat and 3/24.

TV3 is the first channel in the country to provide 3D productions to a portable console, the Nintendo 3DS. The TV3 stereoscopic contents can also be viewed online.

26 April. The Catalunya Ràdio broadcasting group premieres iCatTrònica, an electronic online music channel aimed at iCat fm's youngest public.

1 May. Channel TV3CAT stops broadcasting by satellite and promotes broadcasting over the Internet and new media.

10 MayCatalunya Música celebrates 25 years with a special programme that strengthens their commitment to public service. The classical music station remains intact in order to promote, in Catalan, the knowledge of the country's musicians and universal musical heritage.

Esport3 is launching an application for iPhone and Android with which to follow the sports news and watch Champions League matches broadcast by TV3 live.

11 September. Twentieth anniversary of Catalunya Informació, the country's benchmark news broadcaster.

1 October. The CCMA is restructuring its audiovisual broadcasts to guarantee a high level of competitiveness. In television, Super3 and 33 have merged into the same channel, which replaces 3XL, while new documentary content has been included on Esport3. In radio, iCat.cat has enhanced online listening and stopped broadcasting on FM.

October. Presentation of the Dani Jarque Trophy, which awards the best player Espanyol of the season, by Catalunya Ràdio. The station also submitted an app for smartphones that can comprehensively follow all of the team's games.

October and November. Catalunya Ràdio opens its Sound Archive on Catradio.cat with the recovery of the radio adaptation of the novel “Uncertain Glory”, coinciding with the centennial of the birth of its author, Joan Sales.

December. Catalunya Ràdio presents a pioneering program which is broadcast only through the website: “MeteoMauri”, with the meteorologist Francesc Mauri. Follow what is new every Thursday at seven o'clock every week at this site for weather and the environment at Catradio.cat.

The Marató album has sold more than a million copies since it was first published in 2005. In the 2011 and 2012 editions, it became the best selling album worldwide in a single day, with 200,000 copies. In each edition, the album offers Catalan adaptations of different song styles, genres, concerning the situations or feelings of specific subjects in the Marató.

2013

March. TV3 is the first television station in the country that makes an entertainment program on the web: “Etiquetats”, a program presented by BibianaBallbè and Valentí Sanjuan that combines culture, trends and humour, created and developed to be delivered exclusively online.

April. iCat.cat debuts its image and commits to internationalization as the official broadcaster of Sónar. The station launches a new phase, with the release of a new website that offers content in multiple formats and that advances the medium that will exclusively record and broadcast worldwide the majority of the concerts for the Sónar festival to the whole world.

September. TV3 launches for the first time an app for a second screen on mobile phones with the contest “Oh Happy Day”. This is the channel's first app designed to provide exclusive content synchronized with the broadcast. During the four months of the program, it was downloaded 37,000 times.

October. The CCMA Style Book is published in paper and digitally, with it currently only being available on the website. The document compiles the values of 30 years of experience by TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio professionals regarding journalistic standards and ethics, and it also establishes the editorial and language framework of CCMA media.

The European project HBB4ALL (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband for All) is being launched, it is aimed at responding to the demands for accessibility from groups with special needs. The CCMA is participating with two interactive TV pilots. The first is oriented towards the multiplatform generation of subtitling and the second pursues the production and distribution of alternative audio in each video, adding audiodescription and/or multilingual channels. The project is co-financed by the European Commission, within the framework of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Program (CIP).

2014

March. Debut of “Clicka't”, an online Catalunya Ràdio children's project, with the aim of strengthening the public service of the station with new and educational content for children. During the first season, the site centres its design and content on the work, “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

May. The CCMA opens the “Bon Dia” page on its website, an aggregator for media across the Catalan-speaking territories. The site displays a wide range of audiovisual media and provides access to its contents, in order to be a leader for discovering and consuming content in Catalan, in any of its variants.

May. After the success of its television and online audience, the series Polseres Vermelles (Red Band Society) is exported worldwide. FOX buys the format to make an adaptation in the United States in English, after Italy adapted it, while it is broadcast in the original version dubbed in countries such as Finland, France, Sweden and Argentina, among others.

July. The Department of Social Welfare and Family and the CCMA sign an agreement to strengthen education and pedagogy in order to value the role of women in society. The CCMA broadcasts audiovisual content aimed at promoting equality, such as the Catalunya Ràdio program “El Cafè de les dones sàvies” and the canal 33 programme, “Som dones. Una mirada femenina sobre el món.

September. CCMA media unify correspondents and expand their presence around the world. With this fusion, the news services of TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio take a new step to adapt their structures to get more out of available resources. This streamlining will allow us to open new permanent correspondents in Berlin, Buenos Aires and Moscow.

The first joint delegation was begun, that of Madrid. The delegations of TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio were unified, creating a combined delegate structure for the two media and a project of physical unification of the two editorials.

2015

February. The delegation of TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio of Tarragona, Lleida and Girona has been unified, following the precedent of that of Madrid, within the framework of the new confluence model of the CCMA to improve the efficiency of available resources, foster collaboration between the media and the creation and dissemination of content in a transversal and multiplatform way.

April. Catalunya Informació, the Catalan benchmark 24-hour news channel, has released a new format with more news, that is more in depth, moredirect, and has more time for sport. It is an updated version of a leading public service news-radio formula.

April. TV3 has launched the new “El gran dictat” app, which allows the audience to participate live in sync with the television. This is TV3's commitment to creating new connections between mobile devices and television content.

May. “Tria33” has been released, it is a daily commitment to promoting the cultural programming of Televisió de Catalunya through a new format that includes literature, cinema, music, drama, popular culture and the visual arts. It can be viewed on channels 33 and TV3.

July. TV3 is the first television channel in Spain to offer subtitling for HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband Television), available for connected television.

October. The CCMA presents its accessibility services as a model of success to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU); a United Nations body that specialized in Information Technology and Communication. The presentation is part of the contribution of the CCMA to the European project Hbb4ALL (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband for All).

For the first time, a TV3 fiction has been adapted for Germany. “Polseres vermelles” is the television series with the greatest international projection in the network's history.

The book of TV3's La Marató has been published for the first time on audiobook to make it accessible to people with visual impairment.

The Television Academy awarded TV3's La Marató Special Award for being a unique television format that, since 1992, has mobilized Catalan society around two objectives: raising awareness and funds for biomedical research.

December. The production and realization of HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband) multi-camera programs with user participation, which have already been piloted is to be presented in London, within the HbbTV 2015 Symposium, and within the framework of the TVRing project.

31st December. 3/24 achieved an historic double record in audience figures. In September it registered the monthly maximum, 2.1, and closed the year with a 1.5, improving two tenths from the 2014 quota.

2006

20 January. The CCRTV  undertakes to conduct a more sustainable business practice by means of an agreement to promote “Corporate Social Responsibility” signed with trade unions UGT and CCOO, and with the Trade Union of Journalists of Catalonia.

3 February. The Generalitat (Catalan Autonomous Government) and the CCRTV  reach an agreement to make it possible for Catalans living abroad to see Televisió de Catalunya's programmes on the Internet, through the TV3alacarta portal.

9 FebruaryÉsadir, the CCRTV 's language assessment website, is launched. Its aim is to provide a permanent support in Catalan linguistic issues to other media, universities, translators or schools.

17 February. The CCRTV  adopts the “.cat” domain for its websites and portals.

23 March. The CCRTV  is the first audiovisual group to obtain the European Bronze Seal to quality in business management, a recognition awarded by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM).

22 April. First broadcasts of iCat fm, Catalunya Ràdio's first station designed to be heard on the radio and the Internet, with a la carte access to various channels and musical content.

7 June. The Pope greets TV3 in Catalan to congratulate it for the 20 years on the air of the religious programme "Signes del temps".

19 June . TV3 presents the first interactive game for the DTT: “De 2 en 2”.

29 June. The programme "Temps d'aventura" starts offering a new, free of charge service of video downloads on the Internet (podcast).

9 October5430, the CCRTV's Service of Attention to the Viewer and the Listener, is launched. It is an new channel within the reach of citizens where any questions, complaints or suggestions about TV3, Catalunya Ràdio or the Fundació La Marató can be made.

27 November. TV3 extends its DTT signal coverage to more than 90% of the population, with the launch of 21 new broadcasting centres.

31 November. TV3 broadcasts for the first time a Dolby Digital 5.1 film through the DTT.

2007

18 January. Catalunya Informació launches the broadcast of a news bulletin in Aranese.

5 February. Club Súper 3 reaches one million members (els súpers).

9 FebruaryiCat fm, the radio and internet station, starts broadcasting to mobile phones at a test stage.

14 February. TV3 incorporates audiodescription for the blind at "La gran pel·lícula" in its DTT broadcasts.

Televisió de Catalunya premieres the TV3 channel on the YouTube video-sharing platform.

23 April. Launch of Televisió de Catalunya's high definition broadcasts, at an experimental stage, through DTT.

10 May. Celebration of the 20 years of Catalunya Música.

Celebration of the 10 years of the technological company Activa Multimèdia Digital, with an exhibition at Barcelona's Palau Robert, “Get activated: Come into the Future Radio and Television”.

11 September. Celebration to mark the 15 years of Catalunya Informació.

1 October. Launch of Edu3.cat, a new educational portal that gathers the didactic materials produced by Televisió de Catalunya, Catalunya Ràdio and the Catalan Ministry of Education.

3 October. The Parliament of Catalonia passes the new law of the Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals, which phases out the old name of Corporació Catalana de Ràdio i Televisió (Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals - 3Cat).

17 October. The first course of Locution Applied to Advertising (CLAP) is held, a joint initiative by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the CCMA.

The Méteo channel celebrates its 10 years of broadcastings.

Catalunya Informació can be heard from all stops of the Trambaix Barcelona tramway system.

iCat fm launches a version of the web that is accessible for the deaf or blind.

12 December. 3cat24.cat, TV3's and Catalunya Ràdio's new portal of continued information is launched.

20 December. iCat fm launches Mediterràdio, the first Internet channel devoted to Mediterranean culture and music.

2008

The European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) acknowledges the quality of the CCMA's business management and grants it the European Excellence 400+ level -- formerly known as the Silver Seal.

Televisió de Catalunya promotes the 16:9 format.

The headlines of the 3/24 news programme can be followed in ticker-tape format on all the channels of Televisió de Catalunya (TV3, 33, K3, 300, 3/24 and TVCi ) when activating TV3i's interactive services on DTT.

Under the motto "Plantem el futur" (Let's Plant the Future), Catalunya Ràdio and the Fundació Territori i Paisatge plant, with the collaboration of the listeners, 35,000 trees as a fight against climate change.

Agreement between Televisió de Catalunya and Televisió de l'Alguer for the reception of TV3 from the Sardinian city.

2 June. The CCMA and the Corporación Aragonesa de Radio y Televisión sign an agreement for the development and research of high-definition broadcasts through the DIGITEA platform.

The CCMA websites become available on the iPhone.

16 June. TVSalut is launched, the CCMA's and CHC's television for hospital users.

20 June. Catalunya Ràdio celebrates its 25th anniversary with special programmes and a central event held at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, where some 50 professionals from the group of channels perform a spectacle inspired in "The War of the Worlds".

iCat fm launches new portal that is made available on the iPhone.

Televisió de Catalunya extends accessibility for the deaf and blind with the participation in the European DTV 4 All project of reference.

10 September. Great success of "La nit vint-i-cinc. La nit blanca de TV3", an event with which the channel celebrated its 25 years of history by keeping cultural and entertainment programmes throughout Catalonia going throughout the night.

The CCMA creates the figure of the Ombudsman of the Audience.

Televisió de Catalunya adopts a new system of qualitative measuring of programmes developed by the company GFK.

Televisió de Catalunya launches its first HD mobile unit.

Televisió de Catalunya offers free access to its complete archive of programmes through the Internet.

Catalunya Ràdio's programme "Eduqueu les criatures" gathers hundreds of children in front of the premises for the traditional Catalan Christmas tradition “cagar el tió”.

The TV3alacarta web feature offers high-definition content.

2009

13 January. TV3's programme “Els Matins” reaches its 1,000th edition with a special broadcast from the Liceu (Barcelona Opera House).

The Catalan regional government (Generalitat de Catalunya) and the Balearic Islands regional government agree on the reciprocity of DTT broadcasts between TV3 and IB3.

The public entities of radio and television of the Balearic Islands and of Murcia sign the DIGITEA agreement of the CCMA and the Corporación Aragonesa de Radio y Televisión to develop High Definition.

Clubdecuines.cat, the gastronomy portal of TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio, is launched.

Catalunya Música becomes a member of the Euroradio musical exchange section of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU-UER).

28 May. TV3CAT takes over from TVC Internacional and becomes the TV3 channel that broadcasts outside Catalonia.

Televisió de Catalunya and Activa Multimèdia are the first in Spain to shoot in the new 1080p50 high definition format as part of the HDTVNext research project.

18 October. The Super3, the children's multiplatform channel of TV3 for children up to 14 years of age, is born.

2010

21 January. The Catalan (Generalitat de Catalunya) and Balearic regional governments agree for channels 33, Super3/300 and 3/24 to be broadcast in the Balearic Islands through the DTT.

2 February. Televisió de Catalunya starts broadcasting all programmes on all channels in panoramic format 16:9.

TV3 incorporates subtitles to its online videos.

4 March. Launch of CANAL FGC. This is a new television channel that is broadcast from screens visible at all stations of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya railways. It offers information about railway service and TV3 content, both of them constantly updated.

TV3 pioneers regular 3D broadcasting.

22 May. TV3 produces the TV signal for the Champions League football final, in high definition and 3D. The game was played at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid. 75 TV channels from all over the world broadcast the match to an estimated audience of 280 million spectators.

The TV3alacarta service reaches TV sets with an Internet connection, as well as video consoles and mobile devices, such as the iPad and the iPhone.

19 September. Launch of 3XL, the multiplatform channel for young people between 16 and 25 years of age.

13 October. The regional governments of Catalonia and Aragon have agreed for TV3, Canal 33, Canal 3/24 and Canal Súper 3 to be visible at the 'Franja de Ponent' territories that stand between the two regions. This area joins now the Balearic Islands, Andorra and 'Northern Catalonia' in the south of France, areas where all of the said channels of the CCMA can be watched.

5 November. The Catalan Ministry of Culture and the CCMA signed a collaboration agreement with the Conselh Generau d'Aran (Val d'Aran Autonomous Entity) to create an Internet television platform in Aranese language and other variants of Occitan. The CCMA provides technical assessment and provides content dubbed into Aranese.

7 November. TV3 provided the international signal for the broadcast of the ceremony of the dedication of the Basilica of the Sagrada Família (The Holy Family) by the Roman Pontiff in Barcelona. About one thousand television media from all over the world, with an estimated audience of 150 million viewers, obtained the signal produced with state-of-the-art technology. The finished interior of the new basilica was thus unveiled to the world for the first time.

January. CCRTV Interactiva starts functioning.

Antoni Bassas' morning radio program, “El matí de Catalunya Ràdio”, is broadcast live to a full house at the National Theater of Catalonia (TNC) for the first time. The following year Toni Clapés would do the same with his program “Versió original”.

23 April. Re-structuring of Canal 33: start of K3 broadcasts.

7 May. Re-structuring of Canal 33 completed: Start of channel 33 broadcasts.

First CCRTV video streaming broadcast: premiere of the drama series ”El cor de la ciutat” on Internet, the day before its premiere on TV3.

TVC Multimedia launches Automatic TV, a platform for the automatic publication of TV contents, at the Milia Fair in Cannes.

CCRTV General Services' Corporate Management Board outsources some of its activities to an external company. Activa3® is the new company through which CCRTV offers its experience in developing management systems for the audiovisual industry to other companies and TV broadcasters, mainly in Spain and Europe.

CCRTV General Services, in collaboration with TVC's engineering department, starts to design its own digital audiovisual production and archiving system for TV3 (DigitionSuite).

2002

Premiere of the game Shin Chan, the first multi-platform interactive came in Catalan based on TV3 characters.

First broadcasts of DTT interactive services, resulting from the joint efforts of TV3, Activa 3, TVC Multimedia and CCRTV Interactiva.

Creation of TVC's news portal, telenoticies.cat, and Catalunya Ràdio's, catalunyainformacio.cat, with a portal for the latest news from the 41 Catalan counties.

TVC's teletext service is redesigned. TVCText offers a dynamic program guide and the premiere of Chat, a new service aimed at young audiences that allows them to publish SMS messages from their cell phones in real time on the Teletext.

Launch of ritmes.net, CCRTV's music contents portal, giving special attention to Catalan music.

TVC Multimedia is the first in Spain to develop interactive DTT applications in MHP.

Dalet Plus, a digital editing system connecting text, audio, agencies and Internet, is adopted at Catalunya Ràdio.

Launch of first sports portal in Catalan: elsesports.net.

Live Internet transmission of the arrival of Catalan mountaineer Sergi Mingote on Everest. Real-time images were seen around the world on CCRTV's portal elsesports.net.

News portals telenoticies.cat and catalunyainformacio.cat available for cell phones in SMS message or multimedia format.

Launch of Micromarkets pilot project to test and define future DTT interactive applications.

Launch of multi-platform (Internet, TV, mobile phones) game Espai8 on the youth portal 3xl.net. In just a few months it became a media hit, with 23,000 active players and around 500 messages sent in daily to the forums created to this end.

TVC Multimedia's Automatic TV adopted in France and Portugal.

Innovative new design of CCRTV's youth portal 3xl.net, unlike anything else on the web. Its outstanding modular structure gives visitors more interactivity and the chance to manage contents.

TV3 is the first network in the country to broadcast via third-generation cell phones in UMTS technology.

Premiere of “TV3alacarta”, that allows viewers to watch, over the Internet and at any time of the day, live broadcasts of all TV3 channels and of many archived broadcasts, through broadband connection (ADSL and cable).

7 May. The Catalan and Balearic governments, together with their respective radio and television corporations, sign an agreement for the reception of IB3 in Catalonia and to maintain and improve the reception of TV3 and Canal 33 in the Balearic Islands.

2 June. The CCRTV  and TVC Multimèdia organise the first One-day Conference on Service TV. In it, the future of the public information services on television, and its possible applications within the DTT, are analysed.

1 July. The CCRTV  starts digitalising the historical archive of Catalunya Ràdio and TV3.

15 July. The CCRTV  launches the Servei Català del Doblatge (Catalan Dubbing Services), through which TV3 undertakes to dub foreign films to be premiered in commercial cinemas and make them over to distributors for free.

11 September. Activa Multimèdia Digital, the company resulting from the merger of Activa3 and TVC Multimèdia, is presented at the IBC Amsterdam fair, with the idea of becoming the centre of R+D+D of the CCRTV  and transfer its technological know-how to the sector.

6 October. Activa Multimèdia introduces Sam, the world's first virtual and automatic weatherperson.

Launch of Canal 300, a new channel exclusively devoted to fiction (series and cinema) for DTT.

Full digitalisation is reached of the newsroom of TVC's news services.

Catalunya Ràdio and Radio France Internationale agree to work together to create the first FM network of European information radios, a European project that brings together public and private radio stations from Poland, Portugal, Italy and Belgium.

Catalunya Ràdio and TV3 join forces in the transmission of the match between the national all-star teams of Catalonia and Bulgaria with images provided by TV3 and Joaquim Maria Puyal as announcer.

Constitution of TVC Multimedia and launch of Meteo and Teletiempo weather channels.

Internet installed at CCRTV and subsidiary companies. All users are equipped with E-mail addresses and Web browsers to surf the net, in-house E-mail networks are connected, and a corporate web page offering a range of services is created.

1982

29 September. The Executive Council of the Catalan government approved the Bill whose purpose was to found the public Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals - 3Cat (Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals, CCRTV), then Corporació Catalana de Ràdio i Televisió, and regional radio and television broadcasting services. The passage of the Bill through parliament was marked by cross-party consensus. The final Founding Act was passed in Parliament's Plenary Assembly on 18 May, 1983 and the Act was published in the Official Gazette (DOGC) on 14 June, 1983.

1983

The first stone of Televisió de Catalunya's studios in Sant Joan Despí was laid and premises were acquired at Diagonal, 614 in Barcelona to house the studios of Catalunya Ràdio.

Pere Cuxart, appointed Director General of CCRTV, and Alfons Quintà confirmed as director of the Third Channel, which had already started functioning.

The Catalan Government awards the contracts for the design and construction management for the Third Channel's headquarters to the Cast company. Jaume Ferrús joins the project. TV3's first facilities were set up in Numància Street in Barcelona. This was where the first steps were made to produce and direct programs.

20 June. Catalunya Ràdio starts broadcasting, with the voice of Miquel Calçada.

26 July. Broadcast of Catalunya Ràdio's first news bulletin: the death of Charlie Rivel. Start of hourly news bulletins and news programs.

Catalunya Ràdio's first sports transmission, coinciding with the Joan Gamper Championship.

Constitution of the first CCRTV Executive board.

Tibidabo broadcast center starts transmitting the TV3 test card from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

10 September. TV3's first trial broadcast. The first program, coordinated by Lluís M. Güell, was presented by Àngels Moll and Joan Pera. Jordi Pujol, President of the Catalan government, read a message stressing the importance of the new communication media as a tool for restoring the Catalan language to its rightful place in public life.

October. Catalunya Ràdio begins regular broadcasts.

Constitution of Televisió de Catalunya, SA (TVC), subsidiary of CCRTV, whose responsibilities are detailed in the CCRTV Statute.

TV3 signs a contract with the Barcelona Football Club for the exclusive retransmission of the club's matches, especially football and basketball games. A similar contract is signed with RCD Espanyol.

26 December. Congress approves the Law Regulating the Third Channel.

1984

16 January. TV3 starts regular broadcasts.

Catalunya Ràdio is the first station in Europe to report the death of Soviet leader Iuri Andropov.

Catalunya Ràdio reaches 80% of the territory and 90% of the population.

2 April. The radio station RAC 105 starts broadcasting.

1985

TV3 reaches Andorra, Northern Catalunya and Valencia.

1986

Catalunya Ràdio opens regional branch offices and TV3 inaugurates new headquarters in Sant Joan Despí.

Founding of FORTA (Organization of Regional Radio and Television Broadcasters), with TV3, the Basque Euskal Telebista and Galician TGV-TV as its first members.

1987

May 10. Catalunya Música starts broadcasting.

1988
