Cancer

In 1994 La Marató de TV3 was dedicated to breast and colon cancer with the slogan "Cancer can be cured".

Statistically, cancer affects, one person in four. It is not necessarily a fatal disease and the success rate for cures is about 50% of the cases that are treated, though it depends basically on the state of evolution of the disease when it is diagnosed. Up to 1994, 3,500 cases of colon cancer we diagnosed every year in Catalonia, especially in people aged over 60.

The aim of the third edition of La Marató de TV3 was to mobilise the Catalan public to support research into the causes of cancer. The resources obtained were used to set up or strengthen 60 research projects on the genetic aspects of breast and colon cancer in Catalonia.
