Neurological diseases
Towards the end of the 20th century neurological diseases became one of the most important medical and social health problems to face our society. The direct association of these diseases with old age and the gradual ageing of the world population that could reach extraordinary dimensions during the 21st century. For that reason the 1996 edition of the of La Marató de TV3 was dedicated to diseases of the brain: Alzheimer, Parkinson, multiple sclerosis and the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The fostering of research in neuroscience to advance knowledge of the origin and cause of these progressive and degenerative diseases of unknown cause, which affect the brain and attack the central nervous system, requires a considerable source of funding that is often difficult to obtain.
With over four million euros raised in 1996, La Marató de TV3 played its part in advancing research in the field of brain diseases.
