La Marató de TV3 reached ten years with a 16-hour programme dedicated to AIDS, the worst epidemic of the 21st century. It focused on this disease for several reasons: to provide information about how to prevent it, to give support to AIDS patients, seropositive people and their families, to remind people that the danger is the virus, not the people who suffer from it, but most of all to obtain financial resources to advance scientific research in this field.

The success of that edition made it possible to promote 21 biomedical research projects on AIDS, which ran in the main research centres in Catalonia.
