Acquired spinal cord and brain injuries

In La Marató 2010 we witnessed the stories of struggle, achievement and hope of people who have seen how a suddenly acquired spinal cord or brain injury has drastically changed their way of life. In more than 15 hours of broadcasting we learned about the physical, mental and emotional consequences of these diseases, while understanding the challenges facing scientific research in this field that aims to improve quality of life of people with these injuries.

The acquired spinal cord and brain injuries appear suddenly and almost 80% are traumatic in origin. They cause great functional and cognitive disabilities that seriously impact on people's lives. Spinal cord injuries can cause paraplegia and tetraplegia, that is to say lost or decreased mobility and sensitivity below the place that is affected, and other disorders that derive from that. Brain injuries have a severe effect on the physical, mental and emotional abilities of people who suffer them.
