3Cat is Catalonia’s public media corporation avowed for its excellence in the production and broadcasting of audiovisual content in Catalan. Benchmarking in the sector, with over 40 years experience, and a cross-sectional offer which includes television, radio and digital content through the 3Cat platform.
Along our history it’s been accountable for thousands of high-quality programmes, films, series, documentaries and children's entertainment content, having received several local and international accolades. The ongoing aim to create and innovate has consolidated 3Cat as a key actor within the European audiovisual scope.
In 2024 it produced or coproduced over 80 new works among which documentaries, fiction, animation and many others which premiered in main TV channels and cinemas. This figure doubles the amount for 2023 and our commitment to the growth of the sector.
Our global presence has been consolidated with the success of Polseres vermelles (adapted in more than seven countries) and Merlí (with versions in France and Italy). In 2024 the documentary series Punt de no retorn was awarded the Emmy International prize for the best short format documentary series, Això no és Suècia won the Prix Europa 2023 for the best fiction series and the documentary Unzué, el ultimo equipo del Juancar was awarded the Premio Ondas.
3Cat aims at project innovation with a global projection concerning audiences of all ages and beyond any boundaries. Thanks to strategic agreements with producing companies, hundreds of projects have been boosted by way of finding international financing and visibility, thus contributing to the consolidation of a powerful audiovisual sector, both competitive and globalized.
The 3Cat offer transcends boundaries, reflecting its own culture and connecting with the world at large.
Catalonia is Spain's Northeast region and Barcelona its capital. With over 8 million inhabitants, it is the second autonomous community with the largest population in the Spanish State.
Its own millenary language and culture account for 10 million Catalan speakers across Europe, Catalonia being a land which has traditionally welcomed a vast number of cultures, and furthermore, reached a high level of social cohesion, nurturing its diversity and thus becoming one of the most influential areas in Southern Europe at economic, social and cultural levels.
The audiovisual sector in Catalonia is enjoying one of its best times in history. 4,160 firms are involved in the business, grossing a total of over 8.6 million Euros and employing over 41,000 people.
3Cat leads the audiovisual market in Catalonia, acting as a bench marker. During 15 consecutive years, the main TV channel of 3Cat (TV3), has by far enjoyed the largest Catalan audiences with a 13.7% share, significantly ahead of the second-ranked channel, which is 4.4 points behind despite being a national broadcaster. TV3 is the highest-rated generalist channel of 2024 and, for the fifteenth consecutive year, has achieved a qualitative index of 8.3 according to GfK.
CatRàdio, its main radio broadcasting station and podcast leader, has also been most popular given its innovation and creative nature.
As for the digital platform, it already has 1.2 million registered users and 227 million views, which continue to increase and have already placed it among the top positions.
