Al cim (Catalan Towers)

An emotional journey through the human towers' competition

What does it take to climb 11 meters without a safety net? Courage? Madness? Adrenaline? Focus? Strength? Or maybe a little of all of them?

This documentary follows the best human tower group, the Castellers de Vilafranca, through their most important competition: the Concurs de Castells.

A "castell" (human tower) is a living organism. It grows, breathes, and beats. Once it begins, there's no turning back until it's completed. You're stuck, and you have to hold your position and stay still; every move is crucial, and everyone is absolutely essential.

It is young children who must dare to climb to the highest point of the castell. At the top of the teetering tower, they must raise their arms to crown the castell, to the applause, hugs, and excited shouts of the crowd.

Some towers require the cooperation of around 750 people. Most are positioned in the pinya, the base of the castell, which supports more than 2,000 kg of weight. In this competition, if you successfully disassemble a big structure, you can win, but if you fall... you risk losing more than just points.

The captain of the best team in the world, the Castellers de Vilafranca, faces a dilemma: to what extent can he put his teammates at risk in order to satisfy his obsession with winning?
