A Marvelous Story About the Love of-and Commitment to-Science and Technology
Ferran Calvet, a young and highly-talented Catalan scientist goes into forced exile in 1936 at the onset of the Spanish Civil War, leaving behind his position as a professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia, Spain.
Two years later, in the midst of the civil war, he decides to move back to the northeast corner of Spain, to fill the position of scientific director of Zeltia, a newly established pharmaceutical company. Following initial misgivings of re-entering the dark prison of the Franco dictatorship, he becomes intensely frustrated by being so distanced from his previous university post. Nonetheless, his work at Zeltia produces great results, allowing him, years later, to return to his position in the halls of academia.
Based on real facts, "Children of the Sun" is a marvelous story of the love of -and commitment to- science and knowledge, just as it is a defense of personal and collective freedom in a dark period of history.
