Europe's Last Giant

The amazing story of a great discovery.

"Europe's Last Giant" tells the story of an exceptional paleontological finding: the skeleton of a very large dinosaur living in the southern Pyrenees 70 million years ago; that is, shortly before the impact of the meteorite that made those animals extinct. This is a particularly important finding, given that there are few records of dinosaurs of the same size and, especially, from the same period.

The documentary covers the whole story of the findings, from the first remains discovered by German paleontologist Walter Kühne in 1955, to the spectacular images of the current excavations, unearthing the dinosaur's enormous 5-meter-long neck. In addition, viewers are offered an additional treat: a glimpse into Walter Kühne's notebook, containing specifics about the archaeological site, providing valuable scientific information.

Several prestigious academic institutions━among them the University of Edinburgh, the University of the Basque Country, and the University of Zaragoza━cooperated in the documentary, as did the Catalan Institute of Paleontology, Miquel Crusafont and various world-renowned paleontologists.

Fast-paced and with film-style narration the documentary uses historical recreations and 3D reproductions to draw viewers into the project, asking the same questions as those posed by the paleontologists: what was life like for this dinosaur? What did it eat and how did it find its food? To what species did it belong?.

All in all it is a moving story: we are looking at a new, very large Titanosaur, unknown until now, which existed 70 million years ago in the Pyrenees.

"Europe's Last Giant" is both an informative and entertaining adventure, with great narrative force and quality production values. In short, a delightful treat for a family audience.
