Tales of the Pied Piper

A grand musical satire about political corruption at the start of the 14th century. Or perhaps a statement about society today?

Early 14th century. The little town of Pimburg, set on the banks of the Weser River in Germany, is overrun with rats. They're everywhere and more are appearing all the time. The villagers, unable to control the infestation, are at their wits' end.

A man named Walter Romberg arrives on the scene, announcing that he can get rid of all of the rats in a matter of hours and for a reasonable price. After much negotiation with the surprised townspeople, they reach an agreement to pay him a given price if he rids the village of the rodents.

Just as Romberg is about to set to work on his task, Reverend Grundig steps in. He doesn't approve of the flautist and so decides to imprison him as a sorcerer.

A universal story about the relationship between the people at large and the established power structure.
